pablo lópez

bass-baritone

Born in Palma de Mallorca (Spain), Pablo López became acquainted with the world of opera through the choir of the Teatro Principal of the city. Since then, and thanks to his mentors Sylvia Corbacho and Mauricio Gallardo, he has collaborated both on stage and in the management of the theatre, becoming its artistic director in the 2015-2016 season.

He obtained a Teaching diploma from the University of the Balearic Islands and graduated in Drama from the Institut del Teatre, as well as in Classical Singing from the High School of Music of Catalonia, both located in Barcelona.

He began his professional career as a bass vocalist and evolved towards the baritone register in recent years, specializing in the "buffo" repertoire, where musical and stage aspects converge. His repertoire includes roles such as Così fan tutte (Don Alfonso), L'elisir d'amore (Dulcamara and Belcore), Il barbiere di Siviglia (Don Bartolo), Il turco in Italia (Don Geronio) or Le nozze di Figaro (Bartolo and Antonio), as well as Tosca (Sagrestano, Angelotti, and Scarpia), La Traviata (Giorgio Germont), Madama Butterfly (Zio Bonzo), Rigoletto (Monterone), Faust (Wagner), La serva padrona (Uberto), Adriana Lecouvreur (Quinault), Aida (King), Un ballo in maschera (Sam), La forza del destino (Marchese de Calatrava) and Roméo et Juliette (Duke), among others. More recently, he debuted the leading role of Don Pasquale in the opera season of Burgos.

He made his debut in the seasons of the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, the Peralada Festival, Opera of Oviedo, the Teatro Villamarta in Jerez, Maestranza in Seville, the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, Cervantes in Málaga, Teatro Principal in Palma de Mallorca, as well as in the seasons of the Opèra National de Lorraine and the Opera of Luxembourg.

In the world of oratorio, he sings Mozart's Requiem, Verdi's Requiem, and Fauré's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Bach's St. John Passion, Rossini's Stabat Mater and Petite Messe Solennelle, and Puccini's Messa di Gloria.

In parallel to his operatic career and thanks to his stage training, he develops an intense activity as a stage director with titles such as Marina, La Traviata, Turandot, Luisa Fernanda, El barberillo de Lavapiés, Doña Francisquita, etc.

It is also important to highlight his pedagogical role, which he shares through teaching at the Superior Conservatory of the Balearic Islands (Lyric Scene), with the company Diabolus in Musica, created to bring opera to non-traditional audiences with shows such as "Operàmida" and "Zarzuela de la Z en A", and currently with La voix humaine and "La veu sàuria", with which he has reached 350 performances nationwide, including venues such as the Palau de la Música in Valencia, the Teatro de la Zarzuela, or the Caixaforum in Madrid.

Next season, he will make her debut at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid in Pepita Jiménez.
