Born in Argentina, Mercedes Gancedo made her debut at the age of 18 in the role of Despina (Così fan tutte) at the Teatro Roma in Buenos Aires. Trained under the guidance of Jaume Aragall, Teresa Berganza, Mirella Freni, Montserrat Caballé, Cecilia Bartoli, among others, she combines her operatic career with an intense concert activity.
Winner of the Young Artistic Promise of International Character award from the Association of Critics of the Argentine Republic and the "Teresa Grüneisen" scholarship from the Mozarteum Foundation for studying abroad, the soprano also receives a scholarship to pursue the "Victoria de los Angeles" lied master's program at the Superior School of Music of Catalonia and the BACH scholarship, among others. Additionally, she is recognized in the Competizione dell'Opera (Dresden), Tenor Viñas Competition (Barcelona), and with the "Primer Palau" Award from the Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona).
Her repertoire includes roles such as Micaela (Carmen), Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Giannetta (L'elisir d'amore), Elle (La voix humaine), Mariana (Das Liebesverbot), Prilepa (Pikovaya dama), Oberto (Alcina), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), among others. These have been performed in theaters like the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Real, Festival Castell de Peralada, the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, Theater am Delphi (Berlin), under the baton of conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Marc Minkowski, Susana Mälkki, Domingo Hindoyan, Simon Hasley, Dmitri Jurowski, Riccardo Frizza, to name a few examples.
Mercedes Gancedo combines her operatic career with an intense involvement not only in the realm of lied but also in symphonic and oratorio performances, singing works such as Mahler's Fourth Symphony, Mendelssohn's Ein Sommernachtstraum, Bach's Weinachts-Oratorium, Mozart's Coronation Mass, etc. She collaborates with significant festivals and concert halls such as the Foundation Royaumont, Oxford Song International Festival, Schubertiada de Vilabertran... and has been an artist-in-residence at the Festival LIFE Victoria, Palau de la Música Catalana, L'Auditori de Barcelona, and the Fundación Juan March in Madrid.
In 2017, she recorded her debut album, "Cooking America!", with pianist Beatriz Miralles.
In the near future, she anticipates new collaborations with the Teatro Real in Maria Stuarda and with the Ópera de Oviedo in the role of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro.
