MEGAN BARRERA soprano
Cuban-Puerto Rican soprano Megan Barrera is a native of Miami (Florida), and is an active performer of both opera and concert repertoire, especially in United States. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree and a Master of Music Degree from Louisiana State Universityand completes her Bachelor of Music Degree at the University of Miami.
Awarded in different competitions in her native country, Italy and the Czech Republic, highlights the first prizes of the Nuevas Voces Ciudad de Sevilla contest in 2018, International Vissi d’Arte Competition in the Czech Republic and the Concorso Lirico Premio Koliqi in Milan.
Her artistic beginnings lead her to be part of the stable casts of the Sarasota Opera, Vero Beach Opera, Miami Opera, Wichita Grand Opera, Louisiana Opera and Florida Grand Opera.
Her interpretation of the role of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni at the Miami Music Festival is highly praised by critics, as well as her performance in the role of Norina in Don Pasquale in the Miami Lyric Opera and Wichita Grand Opera.
She is recently heard as a one of the fairies in the Miami City Ballet Balanchine’s production of A midsummer nights dream. Other operatic roles include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with Festival South and Opera Louisiane, Musetta (La Bohème), Gianetta (L'elisir d'amore), Hanna in The merry widow and Jesse in The turn of the screw, among others.
Some of her latest engagements are the concert 'Viva la Zarzuela' at the Vero Beach Opera (Florida) and a tour with pianist Joao Paulo Casarotti and clarinetist Ben Redwine, with the program 'Music of the Americas', in places like London, Lisbon and Brazil. Recent highlitghs include her debut as Micaela in Carmen at the Josef Kajetán Tyl Theater in Plezñ (Czech Republic).
Special mention deserves her next debut at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville in La Traviata, as winner of the Nuevas Voces contest, which also include concerts with the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville and the City of Granada Orchestra.
