Light lyric soprano, Mar Morán stands out in the current operatic scene for her brilliant high notes and razor-sharp pianissimos, which have distinguished her in her recent performances, such as the leading role of La Traviata in the operatic season of Oviedo.
A native of Badajoz (Spain), she commenced her musical studies as an instrumentalist and pursued vocal training at the Professional Conservatory of Music "Victoria de los Ángeles" in Madrid and at the Superior School of Singing in the same city, culminating with distinction in Singing and Repertoire. She secured a scholarship from the International Opera Academy in Ghent, Belgium, to partake in its opera studio program (2019-2020).
Recipient of numerous awards, notable among them are the Tenor Viñas Competition, Virgilijus Noreika Competition in Lithuania, the International Lyrical Singing Competition "Giulio Neri" in Siena, and most recently, the International Lyrical Competition "Tebaldi Gigli Corelli" (Pesaro, 2024).
She embarked on her professional journey at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, performing the role of Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly. From that point onwards, she added titles to her repertoire such as Die Zauberflöte (Queen of the Night), Rigoletto (Gilda), Les contes d'Hoffmann (Olympia), and Gianni Schicchi (Lauretta), to name a few. Over these years, she made her debuts at theatres including the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, the Teatro Real and Teatros del Canal in Madrid, the Auditorio de Galicia, the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, as well as the Teatro Rossini in Pesaro (Italy), the Lithuanian National Opera (Lithuania), and the Muziekcentrum De Bijloke and Vlaamse Opera Theatre, both in Belgium. More recently, she participated in the chamber opera Li Furbi at the Little Ópera festival in Zamora
Additionally, Morán maintains a busy concert schedule, with numerous recitals throughout Spain, particularly notable for her participation in national and international festivals such as the International Music Festival of Mendigorría (Navarra), the International Music Festival of Gaia (Portugal), and the Segovia Musical Festival.
Her debut album, "Luna clara”, alongside pianist Aurelio Viribay and backed by the North American record label Odradek Records, showcases the complete works of Spanish composer Jesús García Leoz. The album was awarded the Melómano de Oro Prize (2021). Recently, she released "Luna muerta" under the label Cezanne Producciones, featuring songs by Manuel Palau.
She will soon perform the role of Frasquita in Carmen in Badajoz and participate in the Ambigú series at the Teatro de la Zarzuela with the recital "Esencias gallegas."
