josep fadó
tenor
With a well-established and highly prestigious career, Josep Fadó has become one of the indispensable singers in Spanish operatic seasons. Born in Mataró (Barcelona), at the age of seven, he became a part of the Choir School of Santa Anna-Pueri Cantores in his hometown. He initiated his studies in music, solfege, piano, and violin under the tutelage of Albert Nieto. Later on, he embarked on vocal training at the Liceu Conservatory of Barcelona, where he continued until attaining the Higher Degree from the Superior Conservatory of Music of Barcelona. He received instruction from Francisco Lázaro, Aldo Danieli, Bonaldo Giaiotti, Ana Luisa Chova, and Carlos Chausson.
He made his professional debut in the 1999/2000 season with the role of Manrico in Il trovatore. From that point onwards, he pursued a highly established career, performing in theatres and festivals all around the world, including Gran Teatre del Liceu, Real and Zarzuela in Madrid, as well as Oviedo, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Bilbao, Klagenfurt (Austria), Danish National Opera, Dijon (France), and Teatro Municipal de Lima (Peru), among others.
His extensive repertoire include leading roles from titles such as Carmen, Pagliacci, Norma, Aida, La forza del destino, Samson et Dalila, Henry VIII, Un ballo in maschera, Nabucco, and the zarzuela La Chulapona, among others. Following a successful career interpreting these roles and with greater professional maturity, Fadó made the decision to redirect his career towards character tenor roles, specializing in those that demand both acting ability and great musicality.
During this period, he took on operas such as I due foscari, Otello by Rossini, Turandot, Rigoletto, Lucia di Lammermoor, Poliuto by Donizetti, Salomé, and Adriana Lecouvreur, to name a few examples. In 2022, he participated in the Spanish premiere of Prokofiev's The fiery angel at Teatro Real, directed by Calixto Bieito, and he returned to the same theatre in March 2023 for Shostakovich's opera The nose.
Fadó collaborates with conductors such as Gustavo Gimeno, Daniele Callegari, Stefano Ranzani, Guido Mancusi, Miguel Roa, Ernst Märzendofer, Antoni Ros Marbà, Friedrich Haider, Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Yves Abel, Nello Santi, Josep Caballé, Giovanni Di Stefano, Maurizio Benini, Sebastian Weigle, Michael Boder, Renato Palumbo, Josep Pons, Riccardo Zanetti, and Christopher Franklin, among others.
Some of his upcoming engagements include Il tabarro / Gianni Schicchi by Puccini in Oviedo, Rigoletto at Teatro Real, and Madama Butterfly in the operatic seasons of Niza, Antibes, and Vichy in France.
