Born in Palencia, Javier Castañeda combines his studies in Industrial Engineering and Anthropology with the Piano career, both in Valladolid. He discovers his vocation for singing a few years later, moving to Madrid to train at the Superior School of Singing with the singer Juan Lomba.
He began his artistic career in various productions with the collective Ópera de Madrid. In recent years, he has made his debut in theatres such as the Teatro Maestranza in Seville, Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Teatro Calderón in Valladolid, Villamarta in Jerez, Campoamor in Oviedo, Fundación March in Madrid, Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, and the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid. His repertoire has expanded to include roles such as Rigoletto, La Bohème, L'elisir d'amore, Il Trovatore (Ferrando), La Traviata (Grenvil), Manon (Count Des Grieux), Un ballo in maschera (Samuel and Tom), Nabucco (Zaccaria), Hamlet (Ghost), Pelléas et Mélisande (Doctor), The Miserly Knight (Ivan), La Celestina (Pleberio), Il barbiere di Siviglia (Basilio), Parsifal (Titurel), Roberto Devereux (Gualtiero), Ernani (Iago), Las golondrinas (Roberto), and Madama Butterfly (Bonzo), among others.
Of his recent engagements, his return to the Teatro de la Zarzuela to sing the role of Pascual in the opera Marina and his debut in the Tenerife opera season in La bella Susona are particularly noteworthy.
In the field of oratorio, he performs Handel's Messiah and Samson, Mozart's Requiem, Bach's Magnificat and Cantatas, Haydn's Stabat Mater (Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid, ORCAM) and Verdi's Requiem (Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga).
Javier Castañeda will soon return to the Maestranza in Seville to perform the role of Zúñiga in Carmen.
