Born in New York (EEUU), of Cuban descent, Alexandra Urquiola graduated from the Yale School of Music (USA) and participated in various training programs such as the Merola Opera Program in San Francisco, the Gerdine Young Artists Program at the St. Louis Opera, and the Aspen Music Festival. In 2019, she established herself in Europe and became a member of the opera studio at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. She has taken part in prestigious international competitions such as the Belvedere, Tenor Viñas, and Neue Stimmen, among others, consistently reaching the semifinals.
Among the numerous roles he performs on stages in the United States and Europe, noteworthy ones include Carmen (Carmen), Marquise Melibea (Il viaggio a Reims), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Paquette (Candide), Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Angel 3 (Seven Angels), Popova (The Bear: An Extravaganza in One Act), Mother Goose (The Rake's Progress), Mrs. Ott (Susannah), Jade Boucher (Dead Man Walking), Zita (Gianni Schicchi), Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti), Annina (La Traviata), Linetta (L'amour des trois oranges), Fyodor (Boris Godunov), The Activist (Second-hand Zeit), Ozias (Juditha Triumphans), Bradamante (Alcina), Kitchen Boy (Rusalka), and The Johanne's Passion by Bach.
Urquiola made her debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid, portraying the role of Plotina in the opera Hadrian by Rufus Wainwright, a performance she reprised at the Festival de Peralada. She returned to the Madrid venue with Cherubini's Médée.
In concert, her repertoire encompasses works such as Handel's Messiah, Elgar's Sea Pictures, and John Adams' Grand Pianola Music. One notable highlight is her collaboration in 2019 with the renowned pianist Steven Blier for the world premiere of Clarice Assad's song cycle Elementos at the New York Festival of Song.
Among her upcoming engagements, a noteworthy highlight is her debut with the Irish National Opera in Vivaldi's opera L'Olimpiade.
