Born in New York, of Cuban origin, Alexandra Urquiola graduates at the Yale School of Music (USA) and participates in various training programs such as the Merola Opera of San Francisco and the Gerdine Young Artists of the Sant Louis Opera. She also collaborates with the Aspen Music Festival, where she works in an experimental workshop on the opera Hadrian by Rufus Wainwright, cooperating with the composer in the revision of one of the roles of the work, Plotina.
She participates in prestigious international competitions such as Belvedere, Tenor Viñas and Neue Stimmen, among others, always reaching the semifinals.
Among the many roles she plays on stage, the most notable are Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Paquette (Candide), Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Angel 3 (Seven angels), Popova (The Bear: An Extravaganza in One Act), Mother Goose (The Rake's progress), Mrs. Ott (Susannah), Jade Boucher (Dead man walking) and Zita (Gianni Schicchi), and she covers the roles of Ottavia (L'incoronazione di Poppea), Giovanna (Rigoletto), Tamiri (Il re pastore), Annio (La clemenza di Tito) and Meg March (Little women).
In 2019 she establishes in Europe and becomes part of the opera studio at the Stuttgart Staatsoper. In the 19/20 season, Urquiola sings the roles of Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti), Annina (La Traviata), Linetta (L'amour des trois oranges), Fyodor (Boris Godunov) and Die Aktivistin (Second-hand Zeit). In this same season she plays the roles of Emmeline in a film adaptation of Purcell's King Arthur, Bradamante in Alcina and Küchenjunge in Rusalka in Stuttgart.
In 2022 she makes her debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Peralada Festival with the opera Hadrian, playing the role of Plotina, the same role she has previously played with its composer, Rufus Wainwright.
In the concert field, her repertoire includes works such as Haendel's Messiah, Elgar's Sea pictures and John Adams' Grand Pianola Music. Especially to highlight her collaboration with the renowned pianist Steven Blier for the world premiere of Clarice Assad's Elements song cycle at the New York Song Festival in 2019.
Her latest engagements include her participation in the stage adaptation of Bach's St. John Passion in Stuttgart and on the same stage, the children's opera Holle!, as well as her return at Teatro Real with Medée by Cherubini.
She will soon make her debut at the Irish National Opera in the role of Aristea in Vivaldi's L'Olimpiade, a production she will repeat in London and Fribourg (Switzerland).
